Governance
Rocky Gas Co-op is owned by its members and governed by a board those members elect. This is how the co-op is governed — what it means to be a member, how the board works, and how you can take part.
The co-op at a glance
Your Rocky Gas Co-op
A co-operative is a different kind of utility. Rocky Gas is owned by the members it serves, and it exists to serve them. Four things set a co-op apart:
The co-op was organized by the members it serves.
It exists for its members — the people who use the service.
A board the members elect — themselves members of the utility — governs the co-op.
Surplus earnings are allocated to the benefit of the members who use the service.
The Board of Directors
Rocky Gas is governed by a board of seven members in good standing. The board’s fundamental role is stewardship: it supervises the management and affairs of the co-op and is ultimately responsible for its decisions and actions.
Directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for a three-year term, and three positions come up for election each year. Members are encouraged to take part — by casting a vote at the AGM, by letting their name stand as a candidate, or both.
Get involved
There are two ways to get more closely involved in your co-op.
Become a member
Membership is open to individuals and corporations, who apply for membership and must be approved by the Board of Directors. There’s a one-time $1 membership charge, and some conditions apply.
Become a director
Director positions are volunteer roles, with minimal remuneration for time spent at official functions. If you’d like to stand, put your intentions in writing — addressed to the Board Chair — and contact the office to send it in or drop it off. To reach a current director, see Our Board.
