Billing & payments
Can I lock into a fixed rate for my gas bill?
Rocky Gas doesn’t offer a fixed rate for your natural gas purchase. Gas Alberta does the purchasing and trading on behalf of all gas co-ops in the province of Alberta. They work to buy natural gas at the best possible price.
How do I pay my bill?
Bills can be paid in person via cheque, cash or debit, after hours using the cheque drop box by the front door, e-transfer, automatic withdrawal, online bill payments, at your financial institution, and through PaySimply™ (PaySimply applies a 2.5% convenience fee to cover payment handling and processing charges).

Why do you change my gas meter?
Under the federal Electricity and Gas Inspection Act, all natural gas meters have a certified, legal lifespan. Because meters can gradually lose calibration and measure too fast or too slow over time, Measurement Canada legally requires utility distributors to follow rigid meter replacement schedules. This ensures bills remain accurate and fair.
Can I remove or replace my own gas meter?
No. This is considered tampering with your gas meter, and it is illegal to remove, alter, or relocate a natural gas meter yourself. The meter and the associated supply lines are the property of Rocky Gas Co-op, and tampering is subject to fines or penalties. Please contact the office with any concerns regarding your meter.
Outages & service
What happens if there is a gas outage?
Rocky Gas employees will immediately work to identify the cause of the outage, and repairs will be completed as quickly as possible. Rocky Gas Co-op will contact all the affected customers to let them know that gas has been restored and ask them if they need help relighting appliances. If so, we will visit each customer’s property to assist. If we can’t get a hold of you or your emergency contacts, we will visit your property and continue trying to reach you. It’s very important to keep your contact info up to date. Planned outages are rare, and when they do occur we use an alternate source of gas supply so that your service will not be affected.
Do you install gas line and repair or install gas appliances?
As a gas utility, our primary mandate is to ensure the safe, efficient distribution of gas to our members. We do limited work on piping and equipment downstream of the gas meter outlet. This work includes, but is not limited to, relighting appliances because of outages, simple leak repairs, and primary and secondary service tie-ins. We do not service, troubleshoot or install natural gas appliances. Contact your preferred gasfitter or plumber for appliance and general gas piping work.
Safety & digging
How far from my gas line can I dig?
When working around underground facilities, there are lots of variables to consider. Using the Click Before You Dig locate request service will ensure that you receive the necessary information for your ground disturbance project. If additional clarification is needed beyond what is included with your completed locate ticket, please contact the office.
What do I do if I hit a gas line?
Call Rocky Gas Co-op’s 24-hour line at (403) 845-2766 and 911 right away, shut off all engines and ignition sources, and evacuate upwind. Don’t try to stop the leak, run equipment, or touch electrical switches — and report even minor pipe damage.

How often do you have to come into my yard?
Some examples of why we may enter your yard are as follows: gas meter reads, gas line locate requests, routine service inspections, contact information requests, leak investigations, gas meter changes, equipment updates, BTU load investigations, end of line pressure checks, gas sampling, odourant level checks, and gas odour complaints.
Do you call before entering my property?
It is always preferable to establish contact before entering your property. Incorrect contact information makes this difficult. It is important to update your contact information with us to aid us in simplifying this process.
Appliances & gas lines
Why is my stove flame orange?
Running an ultrasonic or cool mist humidifier, especially with tap water containing minerals, releases microscopic particles into the air. When these minerals hit the flame, they burn orange. In contrast, a lazy yellow flame indicates improper combustion and that your appliance needs to be serviced or inspected by a qualified service technician, which should be addressed promptly.
How do I get gas from my gas meter to another building on my property?
We build and install a secondary gas line to suit your needs. Secondaries over 100 ft in length are to be built on site. Contact the office for details.
Should I inform you if I’m adding a gas line or more appliances?
Yes. It is important that we have current BTU loads on file so we can ensure that your service operates properly.
